Merrick and the Galloway Hills nestle behind Newton Stewart.  Photographed on a lovely summer evening in June.
Go on throw it again. Corrie  the hotel’s black Labrador waits for his toy to be thrown into the water again.
All this talk about things to do just too much? Then just relax instead in our Residents Lounge and read.
The hotel has a private garage and off road parking.  You do not need an Austin Seven to get here, any car will do.
BIKE IT! Some stunts on a BMX by my sons.  We have a lockable BIKE SHED and a DRYING ROOM for our visitors.
Galloway offers the visitor as much or as little activities as you want to do - or even avoid.

Decide your own level of activity.

How much do you want to do today?  If all you want is a leisurely drive, followed by a good lunch or perhaps a little history we can do that.  Or perhaps a walk on a beach or a gentle stroll in the beautiful forest of Galloway?  We can offer that as well.

Or how about some more energetic action?  The 7 STANES bike trail at KIRROUGHTREE is one of the best  and challenging bike trails anywhere, but even here you can have easy accusable family trails as well as moderate difficult and severe routes for the more adventurous.

But it need not be that difficult, you can stay on the road with an energetic ride along National Route 7, or perhaps a map showing you the gentle routes around Newton Stewart.

Set your own level of activity and we will help you reach it.

This could be a great golfing holiday on seven different courses, or perhaps just half a day, nine holes and then soup and a sandwich.

A walk perhaps? A quiet stroll along the well marked paths of the low slopes of the Galloway Hills or an expedition to the top of The Merrick when on a clear day you can see Ireland or to the North Ben Lomond?  Walking shoes or walking boots it’s your choice.

Fishing Permits are for sale in The Galloway Arms.  Loch fishing the a few days on the River Cree?  Or perhaps just directions to the Smokehouse to buy a nice salmon to take home?

Why not storm a castle or tower?  Or how about St. Ninians’s cave and the ruined church named after him?  Or perhaps a grander scale of religious experience at Luce Abbey.

Whatever you want you will find it here in Galloway:-
